Kate Winslet helped Richard Branson’s mom to safety from house fire

Kate Winslet is a hero

Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet was a real life hero on Monday when Richard Branson’s home she was vacationing at caught on fire and she helped his mother get out of the house to safety.

Winslet was vacationing with her boyfriend and her two children at Branson’s $70 million private island when the blaze erupted at about 4 a.m.  Kate quickly grabbed Branson’s elderly mother and carried her out of the burning house, which has been completely destroyed by the fire.

Branson sent out his sincerest thanks to Winslet on his blog, saying;

“Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90-year mum out of the main house to safety. Around 20 people were in the house and they all managed to get out and they are all fine. We will rebuild the house as soon as we can. We have a wonderful staff here and we want them to stay in work. … There’s a lot of damage but we’ll create something even more special out of the ruins. Currently just huddled up with family and friends in the continuing tropical storm realising what really matters in life.”

The house was said to have been struck by lightning from the tropical storms that are hitting the islands.

Check out the video below that Richard posted of the blaze that destroyed his home.
