Kate Winslet escapes from fire at Richard Branson’s home

Kate and her family are okay

Actress Kate Winslet and her family were staying at Richard Branson’s house on his private Caribbean island when tragedy struck and a fire broke out burning Branson’s home to the ground.

Winslet was staying at the Great House on Necker Island when the fire began at about 4 a.m. this morning, but Kate and her family were able to escape the blaze and get to safety.

Branson let everyone know that Kate was all right, saying; “Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there and [my daughter] Holly and some of her friends were also staying. My mother was there and they managed to get her out and she is fine.”

Luckily no one was hurt, but Branson has said that his home is “completely destroyed.”

They believe that lightning struck the house and ignited a fire.  There are severe storms hitting the islands due to Tropical Storm Irene.
