‘Glee’ season 4 song spoilers: Matthew Morrison does his best John Cusack

Matthew MorrisonWhile the vast majority of “Glee” fans were most excited to hear the rendition of “Come What May” for Thursday night’s new episode “Girls (and Boys) on Film” featuring Darren Criss and Chris Colfer, there was just as much a part of us jumping up and down to hear Matthew Morrison tackle what is in our mind one of the great movie songs of all time: “In Your Eyes” from “Say Anything.” We could start here by saying it’s rather sad that some people on YouTube seriously thought that this song was from “The Lion King,” but we’ll instead dive into a Peter Gabriel classic that is rather hard for anyone to try and cover.

So how did Morrison do with the song? All in all, the guy deserves to have a round of applause for just being able to handle the emotion of this song, while at the same town making it sound like a genuine pop performance. It is away from Broadway that Morrison as a singer has struggled a little bit over the past couple of years, but he completely delivers here.

For those of you who have a very careful ear, you will probably recognize one of the other voices during this song as Alex Newell’s Unique, who does background on the song along with a few assorted chorus member. Ultimately, it makes perfect sense for this to be a Will showcase, mostly because we picture him singing it to the love of his life outside her bedroom window, presumably with a stereo in his hands.

What do you think about this performance as a whole? Be sure to share what you think below, and as mentioned you can check out the performance of “Come What May” by heading on over to the link here.
