I am going back to watch in Jan/14 in support of the cast still on the show. Was I sad to see Mathew die yes I was I couldn’t watch I had to leave the room and still cried and I wish that the role had been re-cast and as mentioned Rupert Penry-Jones who is or has left MI5 would have been a great replacement, yummy too!!!

While I hated to see Matthew go the series has always been faithful to real life. People die, even young good hearted ones. The story is about how the folks at Downton will soldier on. As Violet might say, ” Now we will see what we are made of.” One of the things I like most about this series is how the characters grow and change….. Maybe now Mary will begin to grow to be more like her late husband. Perhaps Tom Branson will be relied on to continue his work on the estate. I cant wait to see what happens to Daisy, Jimmy, Mrs. Patimore and the rest. Lots .of changes coming . Tragedy is as much a part of life as joy.

A very bad decision for such a wonderful writer and series. The audience did not deserve such a violent ending for sdomething that we will have to wait for many months. . I have always felt each week that something awful was going to happen to someone and usually I was not wrong. In such a violent sad worlld, it would have been wonderful to find something on TV that was mostly pleasant, Why Fellowes has been caught up in the horror of the world today. You have lost a lot of viewers, including me.
I believe that something very bad happened in the real life of Dan Stevens that made him kill the golden eggs’ chicken. I wonder if his wife had any participation on his decision…

You have until the beginning of Season 4 to reason with this brilliant and lovely man. He and Mary are magic, fun, all that is good, kind, wicked and loving. BRING him back! There can me some miraculous medicine the good doctor can employ saving Matthew and winning the heart of his mother!!!!

Mary will be so heartbroken without him now that she was so happy in love and have a son. Unless she falls in love with her sister widow husband since they both lost their true love.
