Earlier this week, Selena Gomez said in a radio interview that although she was not going to be performing during the Britney Spears tribute during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards August 28, that she will be acting as a presenter — however, it appears as though her role is really going to be even more expansive than that.
In a new statement, the 19-year old singer announced that she will be the host for the show’s annual pre-show event from the black carpet (something that she was probably not allowed to reveal previously):
“I am very excited to be a part of the 2011 VMA’s! After all of my years watching the VMA’s, the pre-show has always been one of my favorite parts. It is a true honor to be hosting from the black carpet this year”
Selena likely earned this gig for a number of reasons:
1. Her popularity with young people — who are the key MTV audience
2. Her stellar job co-hosting the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto earlier this year.
3. The possibility of giving one of the most awkward / hilarious interviews ever with her boyfriend Justin Bieber
Selena’s new album, “When the Sun Goes Down,” is in stores now. Are you happy to see Selena getting this additional gig?
