Selena Gomez not performing in Britney Spears tribute at 2011 VMAs

She will still present.

After a number of sites had previously proclaimed that Selena Gomez would be performing during a Britney Spears tribute at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, we now have heard from the “Who Says” singer — and it does not look to be happening.

Speaking in an interview with a radio station, Gomez proclaimed that her role at the ceremony is going to limited to just presenting an award:

“I will presenting but I won’t be performing. That’s awesome [that people think that], but no.”

As for why people probably do think that, the answer seems to be obvious — Selena is doing a tribute to Britney throughout her “We Own the Night” tour, so in many ways on the surface it seemed to be a perfect fit. There still are plenty of other singers rumored for the gig (including Nicki Minaj, who has served as an opening act to Britney during her “Femme Fatale” tour), so it will be interesting to see what happens in the end.

Are there any artists you want to specifically see tribute Britney?
