‘American Idol’: Scotty McCreery celebrates Gold status

So far in 2011, Scotty McCreery has plenty of reasons to be happy. First, he was the winner of “American Idol” season 10 — and soon after that, he received a major record contract. Now, he also has the welcome news that his first single has reached Gold status in selling half a million copies in the United States.

Scotty himself confirmed the news by writing the following in a new post on his Twitter page:

“I Love You This Big just went¬†#GOLD¬†this week! thank yall so much! This is really incredible.. love yall!”

Scotty’s single first had an incredible debut on the Billboard Hot 100, and has since sold pretty well as a single on iTunes. This song marks the first time that a season 10 alum has reached this milestone — though granted, he , Lauren Alaina, and Pia Toscano are the only contestants to have released a single so far following their time on the show.

Are you happy for Scotty making it past the 500,000 mark?
