‘Girls’: Lena Dunham weighs in on Rihanna, Chris Brown romance

Lena DunhamMrs Carter: She’s worried about the influence this couple has on young women.

It has been years since the Chris Brown assault on his then girlfriend Rihanna, and while many people thought that it would end his career after pictures of a battered and bruised Rihanna surfaced all over the internet it actually pushed his career further as he became more popular then ever.  Now that Brown and Rihanna are dating again we wondered if there would be any fallout for either singer from their fans, but it seems for the most part that people are fine and in some cases even happy for the couple.

One person who is not happy about the coupling is “Girls” star Lena Dunham, who weighed in on their relationship while talking to Alec Baldwin on his podcast.  Dunham feels that celebrities and artists have a heavy influence on fans and that Rihanna getting back together with Brown can be a negative influence for young women.  She said:

“It’s an amazing thing and it’s like, it’s a platform that you have to take seriously. Which is why sometimes it’s like I used to be really into Rihanna, that pop star, and then it’s like again, I don’t want to ever throw stones from my glass house, but I follow her on Instagram and I just think about how many little girls beyond what I could even comprehend are obsessed with Rihanna.  Like you know, she left Barbados, she’s had this amazing career, she’s won a Grammy… She’s talented. And then she gets back together with Chris Brown and posts a million pictures of them smoking [drugs] together on a bed and it cracks my heart in half in a way that makes me feel like I’m 95 years old.”

Dunham says she doesn’t want to cast stones, but after Rihanna and Brown released their duet last February, Dunham wrote on her Twitter that their duet made her want to “hide under Gloria Steinem’s bed for 72 hours”.
