‘American Idol’ season 11: official statement about Jennifer Lopez’s return

It’s official.

We have written about this story so many times now that it really feels like it should have happened already, but on Wednesday (two days later than expected), it was finally made official — Jennifer Lopez will be back as a judge on “American Idol” this coming season.

In a statement, show creator Simon Fuller gushed on just how excited he was the frequently-discussed deal to get J. Lo back on the show has now been completed:

“Having both Jennifer and Steven return to Idol in 2012 alongside Randy is such a positive reflection on what was a wonderful and hugely successful season last year, and everyone is delighted.”

At first, there was some question as to if this deal would get done, with Lopez returning to her film career while also reportedly asking for a higher salary in return for the show performing so well in the ratings. There were also some questions as to if her divorce from Marc Anthony was going to play any role in her wanting to take some time off.

As expected, Lopez will be joined on the show by Randy Jackson Steven Tyler, and host Ryan Seacrest — as they were all under contract for this coming season.
