Very disappointing Season 3 opener. The wedding was a big disappointment and the dress was awful. Shirley McLaine was great, but you have to give it to Maggie Smith – she is so darned good! And, she was made for this part. What about Bates? I have always thought that some handsome Lord should come along and find out who really killed Bates’s wife, and it will turn out to be Sir Richard Caryle, Mary’s old fiance. I also want Lord Grantham’s maid that he had a little love thing with to come back into the picture. But, alas, I’ll wait and see.

I think Fellowes is trying to introduce the audience to all the sub plots for season 3. I liked it, now all we need to know is will Mary & Matthew stay married, will Downton be saved financially, will Edith marry, what about Thomas and his sceming ways, will Bates get out of jail? What is Shirley MacLaine’s role? Of all of them I thought she was the weekest character. All these things were alluded to the sub plot. I loved it.

Downton has gone downhill. Moving too quickly. Scenes are becoming charicatures of past better developed episodes. Not up to par. Not all I was hoping for. Especially because it was continuously hyped beforehand. Hopefully it will improve in upcoming episodes.
