Jennifer Hudson had always felt good about her appearance and didn’t realize that she had any sort of problem with her weight until she appeared on the hit reality television series ‘American Idol’ in 2004.
Hudson said that it was Hollywood that made her realize that she was “plus-sized” and that’s when she understood that it was an issue. Jennifer explains;
“I didn’t even know I was considered plus-sized until I came to Hollywood. I thought I was the perfect size!”
She said that her perception of her weight changed on a red carpet event when “an interviewer asked, ‘How does it feel to be plus-sized in Hollywood?’ I looked around, like, Who is she talking to? Oh, me? I’m plus-sized? In the neighborhood I’m from in Chicago, a 16 is normal. But in Hollywood, everyone looks exactly the same, so I stood out.”
When she became pregnant with her son was when the Oscar winning actress decided to make a change. She said;
“I thought, hold on – why doesn’t anybody know I’m pregnant? And I wanted to set a good example for my son. I’m prouder of my weight loss than my Oscar!”
Hudson worked with Weight Watchers to shed the pounds and is feeling good about herself, but it’s sad that she felt great about herself before and because of the ‘image’ that Hollywood expects from women Jennifer found herself questioning her figure after thinking she was perfect her whole life.
We love you at any size Jennifer!
