‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 spoilers: Now with more ‘Covert Affairs’

Do you want more of a certain hit USA drama on “How I Met Your Mother” season 8? If the answer here is “yes,” then we have some overwhelmingly positive news to share for you now: a “Covert Affairs” star is checking in for a guest spot as someone Ted Mosby knows rather well.

According to a new report coming in via TV Guide, Peter Gallagher, best known for his work on this show as Arthur Campbell, is going to be appearing on the hit CBS sitcom playing the role of Ted’s old college professor, who is going to have a rather interesting run-in with during the episode airing on Monday, December 17 (which will presumably be the last one to air this year). Gallagher has not been seen in comedy so much as of late, so this role presents a fine opportunity for him to show off a little bit more of what he is capable of as an actor.

As for what else could be happening for Ted at that time, the answer is unclear thanks to the fact that he and Victoria broke up at the end of Monday night’s new episode after he expressed some reluctance to end his friendship with Robin, who he had cheated with back during his first relationship with Ashley Williams’ character. There is another love interest coming up for him played by Abby Elliott, but most indications are that she will not be appearing until at some point early next year (similar to what happened last spring with Becki Newton as Quinn).
