The performance lineup for the 2012 American Music Awards just because that much more crowded; and luckily, it’s with the sort of big names that ABC is probably celebrating having on their roster.
On Monday, the network announced some additional performers for the annual awards show and it includes such singers as Justin Bieber, his longtime mentor Usher, legendary rock group No Doubt (who are in the middle of a comeback), and controversial pop star Ke$ha. The group joins a lineup that already features the likes of Carrie Underwood, Pink, Taylor Swift, Pitbull, Linkin Park, Christina Aguilera, and Nicki Minaj. The craziest part of this is that these are not the only performers who are going to be appearing on the show soon, as more will be announced in the coming weeks.
This year’s show will air on Sunday, November 18, and the obvious hope here is that this sort of eclectic lineup will be enough to convince viewers to check out the show if they have not in the past. The one issue that is obvious with the lineup at present is this: it feels more like the roster for the 2010 or 2011 show than this year. Where are the likes of the hot new artists like fun., Frank Ocean, Carly Rae Jepsen, or even “Gangnam Style” singer Psy? There is no one who is really a part of this show who is brand-new to the world of music in the past year, and some viewers could see this really as more of the same.
