For some reason, it seems like a season of “The Real Housewives” would not be completely without somebody deciding to suddenly embark on a singing career. We have already heard such people as Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, Michaele Salahi, Danielle Staub, and Kim Zolciak try and tackle the world of music — and now, Melissa Gorga from Bravo’s “New Jersey” series has joined the mix.
On Friday, Ryan Seacrest premiered Gorga’s new single “On Display” on his radio show — and overall, our reaction is surprisingly mixed. In comparison to what Salahi, Staub, and Alex McCord’s husband Simon van Kempen have put out there, “On Display” actually has a decent amount of vocal fortitude to it. Gorga has some real vocal talent, and that part of this song was a surprise since more often than not we expect vocal car crashes from realty TV alum trying out music for the first time.
Unfortunately, what ends up bogging down the song are the backing track and lyrics — both of which are too generic to ever give this song any sort of serious credibility. We don’t need to hear about Gorga’s celebrity, especially since there are so many artists out there far more famous than her who choose not to take part in this same level of self-indulgence.
If Gorga wants to be taken seriously at this, she’s going to need to get some better people around her — otherwise, get ready for this to be just a one-and-done act by a reality star wanting to branch out into something new.
Episodes of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” season 3 air on Sunday nights, and you can check out audio of the song below.
