When it comes to looking back at the “So You Think You Can Dance” finale Thursday night, there was some good news mixed with the bad.
Let’s of course start with the reason for all of us to smile — although Sasha Mallory would have been a worthy champ, as well, a truly fantastic dancer in Melanie Moore ended up winning the show. It’s hard to know whether or not she will end up working with Kenny Ortega in some capacity on his “Dirty Dancing” remake (as he suggested during Wednesday’s show), she does have $250,000 in her pocket.
Now, we get to the sad part of all this — the ratings. Despite having two of the best female dancers in the history of the show, the finale this year ended down 13% versus the same one airing in 2010. Overall, this season has struggled throughout much of its second half, even though it started off so strongly earlier this summer. It may be that the show has lost some excitement among casual fans, but you have to wonder what Nigel Lythgoe and company are going to do during the next several months prior to the next “So You Think You Can Dance” auditions to spice things up a bit.
Why do you think the ratings for the show this season ended up being down a little?
