On the third season of “Downton Abbey,” we have really seen a rather sad situation unfold for Brendan Coyle’s character of Bates. The man has spent every episode thus far behind bars after being accused of killing his estranged wife, who he was really no longer with after spending so much time away … and not to mention moving on with Anna. This relationship has become one of the most beloved of the entire series, and it has been at times painful to watch the characters deal with the fact that they are now being kept away from each other thanks to a crime that the man may not have committed. (More on that in a moment.)
Now, it looks like the man famous for playing the part is also looking for love in his own unique way. As a part of a brand-new interview with the Telegraph, Coyle explained that he is ready to find love himself:
“I’m going to be 50 soon … I’m single, I’m looking for something meaningful. By the time you’ve been single for quite a long time, you can get quite specific about what you can and can’t put up with.”
In going back to the subject of whether or not Bates could be actually guilty of killing his wife, Coyle explains that he does like that there is at least some mystery surrounding what really happened:
“If you think it’s ambiguous now, it gets more ambiguous. Bates has been in the Boer War. He would have killed a lot of people. Does that mean he can kill his wife? What does it do to you?”
