The Bachelor 2020: Is Peter Weber surging after Monday’s Bachelorette?

Peter Weber

Following Monday night’s new episode of The Bacheloretteis Peter Weber suddenly surging as a contender to be The Bachelor? It feels like that may very well be the case.

To think, it was really a week or so ago when we first downgraded Pilot Pete as a contender — his physical relationship with Hannah Brown was there but we weren’t seeing anywhere near as much when it comes to the intangibles. Think in terms of the emotional connection or what made him stand out beyond just his job.

On the hometown dates episode, this changed — and you can thank his family for that. Peter had the best hometown of the night in terms of giving us a good sense of his life, starting with the emotional scene that we saw with him and his father. After watching that, how can you not feel like he is genuine and there to find love? It’s also interesting that his family is so multicultural and that could help to show a greater sense of perspective to a show like The Bachelor that often doesn’t have that.

You can throw in there the part of this where Peter has a real job — one that doesn’t involve either modeling or selling tummy tea on Instagram. We know that Jake Pavelka’s already done the whole “I’m a pilot” story, but if producers think that it could work for Peter, it makes sense for them to run with it. It is something that they can use in marketing the season and that’s not something we imagine them doing with Mike (who does have a job, just not much of a buzzworthy one) or Tyler.

Finally, think in terms of production convenience here. Because Peter’s family lives in the greater Los Angeles area, doesn’t that make life a little bit easier on the producers? He’s more accessible and it may actually be easier during post-production since they don’t have to fly him out all the time.

Make no mistake — this is still a three-person race between Peter, Tyler, and Mike — Peter’s just higher up on the rankings than we once had him.
