Even though there are some successful couples from “The Bachelorette” who have gone from the final rose to a wedding (most notably Trista and Ryan Sutter), there has yet to be a winner from the main version of this franchise to actually marry the woman that he proposed to at the end of the season. The only sort-of exception here is Jason Mesnick, who married his runner-up Molly Malaney after confessing at the “After the Final Rose” special that he made the wrong choice. We were hoping for Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson to break the trend, but it was sadly not meant to be. In a new statement per In Touch, the couple had the following to say about their decision to go their separate ways:
“After meeting over a year ago, we have decided to end our romantic relationship. The ups and downs weighed heavily on us both and ultimately we started to grow apart because of the distance, time apart, and our need to focus on our respective careers.
“We have nothing but the utmost respect for each other, and both feel this is the right decision … We continue to remain friends and will support each other in future endeavors. Thanks to everyone for your love and support, it’s been quite a ride.”
Not everyone has actually shown a great deal of support at all for Ben and Courtney, with both parties serving as the target of great criticism throughout their season early this year over the way Courtney treated some of the other women. She later apologized for her actions, but the damage from a PR standpoint was already done.
The good news? We still have Ashley Hebert’s wedding to J.P. Rosenbaum to look forward to … and hopefully, Sean Lowe will have a little bit better look on his season.
