Manifest season 2 renewal: Why hasn’t it happened yet?

Manifest

For everyone out there curious as to a Manifest season 2 renewal (or lack thereof), there still doesn’t seem to be too much to worry about. It does feel like some more episodes are coming, and it’s just a matter of getting the official green light via NBC.

So why haven’t we gotten that renewal, especially when you consider the fact that the ratings average for season 1 is fairly solid (even if it declined after five or so weeks in) and it also performs well via DVR? Well, it really comes down mostly to something that has long been the thorn in the side of viewers when it comes to renewals: Ownership. Speaking via TV Guide, show executive producer Jeff Rake explains:

I’m sensing a lot of positive murmurs. I don’t think that viewers should read too much into the fact that a show hasn’t been renewed yet. It always takes a little bit longer when a show is produced by one company and is broadcast on another company’s air. That’s the case with this show. It’s produced by Warner Brothers and it’s broadcast by NBC, and they’re two different entities so it just takes a minute for terms to be worked out and negotiations to be worked out. The network fights for the show, we do well, a lot of people watch the show and I have a good feeling that we’ll be back to continue to tell the story next season.

Rake adds in here that he feels as though the series would be shopped around should NBC cancel it, but that’s something that is pretty hard to imagine at the moment. There’s a reason to think there will be good news coming at the network, mostly because they’ve worked with Warner Bros. TV with regularity over the years — as a matter of fact, another big drama series on the network in Blindspot hails from them! That show has managed to survive with lower ratings, so there shouldn’t be too major (Major pun intended) reason for worry here. We’d say that by around April, you should know, in some form or another, some additional news in regard to season 2. Networks tend to announce their full schedules in May, so that’s the latest we can imagine some of the news coming out; we’re just not sure that we are going to have to wait all that long.
