‘America’s Got Talent’: Gymkana, ‘Glee’ act impress

Who stood out?

Let’s face it — the YouTube auditions are always the most painful episode of “America’s Got Talent” to watch. Most of the acts are far from spectacular, especially when you consider that there were too many dancers, a few acts that had no business being there, and a kid contortionist that was just painful to watch.

However, there were two acts who did manage to impress over the course of this episode:

1. Gymkana – This acrobat troupe may need to step it up to stay around, but for this episode they literally did something that has never been done on this show — do a brilliant routine based around ladders. There was so much excitement and suspense here that it was mesmerizing to watch.

2. Powerhouse – This group claims they were the inspiration for “Glee” — while Ryan Murphy may beg to differ with some of this group’s interpretation of history, the fact that the show’s co-creator has seen this act perform is a testament to their talent. Granted, this performance of “Firework” to close the show was not perfect — and they probably made their biggest mistake in covering a song that Lea Michele has already performed (not to mention “The Glee Project”). That being said, isn’t this so much better than a some guy dropping basketballs or a dance crew that we have seen two hundred times already?
