The box office is going to be turning blue all over again — even if you are going to have to wait until 2013 to see it.
Following a surprisingly strong opening weekend at the box office, Sony Pictures has announced that the sequel to “The Smurfs” will be hitting theaters on August 2, 2013 — which puts it in a similar summer time frame as the original. Jordan Kerner will stay on board as a producer for the project, but the fate of just about everyone else is still unclear.
Despite getting largely-negative reviews, audiences took positively to the Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays film, which has grossed $135 million worldwide in just a week and a half in release. The film is of course based around the classic 1980’s cartoon of the same name.
Do you think “The Smurfs” really needed another installment, or are you excited about this?
