Going into the season 2 premiere of “Once Upon a Time” Sunday, there are all sorts of questions and mysteries that we have analyzed over and over again until we are blue in the face. However, there is one interesting wrinkle that we had never really thought about until just now: how in the world is Belle going to be able to handle the madness that has become her life today?
In many ways, it’s almost easy to forget thanks to everything else that’s going on, including her relationship with Rumpelstiltskin, just how isolated she has been over the past 28 years of her life (even if time was technically still when it came to the delicate process known as aging). Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Edward Kitsis was kind enough to remind us of this by saying the following message:
“This will probably be a strange land to her. She’s never seen a telephone before, she’s never seen a television…. And her inner nature is still one of goodness. Rumple has this large agenda and whatever it is, it required him bringing magic to this land. He has always been a character who has had to chose between love and power, and he’s always chosen power, so now that Belle, this wild card, comes into his life, into this meticulous plan, how will it affect it? And which path will he now choose because of it?”
We already know that Belle will be sticking around for a while thanks to her series regular status, and to be honest, we see that her relationship with Rumple could be in jeopardy. It would be a nice twist to see the Belle character with a tinge of darkness to her, but this just seems so far removed from the person that we know at this point.
