Considering that “The Closer” was arguably the most-popular show in the history of TNT, the network had some pretty enormous shoes to fill with their spin-off series “Major Crimes.” However, the producers have managed to do that and then some, as it was just announced this week that the show will return for a second season.
In a statement, here is what the head of programming for TNT Michael Wright had to say:
“Week after week, Major Crimes has drawn millions of fans with its combination of sharp writing and engaging characters brought to life by what can only be described as one of the best acting ensembles on television … We look forward to another season of this remarkable new drama.”
While the ratings for “Major Crimes” has not been on par with some of the best years of “The Closer,” it is still fairly evidence that the show has developed a loyal following in a short amount of time. Plus, it is a part of a lineup of strong series that includes “Rizzoli & Isles,” the recently-renewed “Franklin & Bash,” “Falling Skies,” and the already-renewed new series “Dallas.” The hard question for any network losing a huge show is how they manage to recover in the months that follow, and somehow, “Major Crimes” has managed to provide the sort of stability that executives were probably begging for.
