If there was one thing that was almost worth of a few good facepalms during the first season of “Once Upon a Time,” it was having a main character who in many ways we knew very little about. In the pilot, we saw that Jennifer Morrison’s Emma Swan worked as a bail bondsman, and that she had a particular talent for finding people and then locking them away. However, what we didn’t find out was how she landed that job, what her younger years were like, or who the father of Henry was. As a matter of fact, it was one of those things spoken about so rarely it was crazy … especially when it comes to how little Henry actually asked about it.
So how much of Emma’s backstory are we finally going to get this season? While there are no guarantees that we will meet Henry’s dad or find out any additional information, it does look as though we are going to uncover a bit more as to who Emma is, why her character is going to react so strongly to the Charming Family Reunion that may not be that charming at all (even though some of the pictures are really rather cool). In a lengthy new interview with TV Guide on the subject of Sunday’s season premiere, here is what executive producer Adam Horowitz had to say:
“We can say that we are going to tell a back story of the character who, in a lot of ways, is like a new fairy-tale character because she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. We are going to give a little more backstory into Emma before she had Henry. Maybe go back and look at Comic-Con where we did a series of title cards. One of them had a yellow bug on it. That’s Emma’s car, and that was meant to signify a dip into her past.”
