Who knew that Zooey Deschanel was going to be anchoring two nights during Fox’s premiere week? Just a matter of days after “New Girl” aired a special preview episode at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday to serve as a lead-in to new series “Ben and Kate,” the Emmy-nominated actress is also going to be turning up on the 24th season premiere for the long-running Fox comedy.
So who is Zooey set to play? We really don’t know too terribly much about her character just yet, but there is one bit of good news that we are able to pass along: she will in fact be singing. In the video below, you can see Zooey’s character take on a track with a surprising amount of country flair to it. Her voice has an interesting quality to it when it is country, mostly in that she has the rare ability to sound like herself while at the same time not really sounding like anyone. All we are hoping is that we will have more to her character than just singing, but that seems likely given that her character already seems to have at least a few feelings for Bart (even if she is not quite sure how to express them in any way other than a song).
At the moment, Deschanel is a little bit of a saving grace for a network that is currently struggling with its new lineup. Neither “Ben and Kate” nor “The Mindy Project” premiered to huge numbers, and “The Mob Doctor” already seems on the road to cancellation. With it looking likely that “The X Factor” will continue to underwhelm, the network may need more of their animation domination than ever.
