Is Maksim Chmerkovskiy really going to be leaving “Dancing with the Stars”? That answer is “yes,” but what has been taken out of proportion over the past few days has been when the show’s most-famous pro is going to be walking off the stage.
As we wrote over the weekend, what Maks was trying to say in his original comments was that he plans on taking off from the show after his contract is up at the end of 2013, and this is something that Tom Bergeron, fresh off his much-deserved Emmy win as Outstanding Host, told people backstage at the ceremony Sunday night:
“I talked to him yesterday … He said it was taken out of context… it was end of his contract. I would fully understand that, but he’s going to be with us beyond this season.”
Bergeron also said that he was not going to pick out a favorite among the cast for the new season, if for no other reason than that the other people that he works with would be very angry with him. He also joked to reporters that while this was a real thrill, a celebrity dance competition was not something that he ever saw himself winning an Emmy for at any point in the past. We’ve said this before, though, and it holds true: there is no one who is better at his job or seems to deserve recognition more than Tom. He loves what he does, is comfortable moving things along, and has a good rapport with everyone he introduces into the ballroom.
Do you think that “Dancing with the Stars” would work without Tom, or Maksim for that matter in the long-term? If you want to see our full predictions for season 15, you can do so over at the link here.
