We are almost to the second episode of “Saturday Night Live” this season, and there is one question that is going to inevitably be front and center on our minds: will the show be able to match what was a pretty strong first episode? Sooner or later, we worry that the loss of Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, and Abby Elliot will haunt Lorne Michaels and company, especially when we start to get a few weeks in and we have yet to meet some new characters from Cecily Strong, Tim Robinson, and Aidy Bryant.
We do feel good that it will far surpass the ho-hum “Weekend Update Thusday” that we saw earlier this week, and the show also has one other thing already in its back pocket: Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the host. The “Looper” star has shown that he has some serious comedic chops courtesy of “3rd Rock from the Sun” and some films over the years, and it also works in his favor that this is his second time hosting the show. He will have some of the initial nerves out of the way, and the producers should also feel a little less concerned as to whether or not he will play well off of the cast and the audience.
As for the musical guest, the best ones are those that can change the pace of an entire crowd in just the drop of a hat, and we certainly know already that Mumford & Sons is a clear class act. They are strong performers live, and their musical style should work well with the famously small stage.
Do you think that we are in for a good show? We want to hear some more from you below! If the promo below is not enough to get you excited, be sure to also check out one of the other new “SNL” previews over at the link here.
