On Monday’s edition of “Katie,” Katie Couric is going to have one of the first opportunities to have an extensive and personal sit-down interview with Demi Lovato since she joined “The X Factor” earlier this year, and everything is going to be on the table, whether it be her history being bullied, struggling with her image, or even the incident that first caused her to enter a treatment center back in 2010.
First and foremost, Lovato explained to the daytime host just when it was that she first realized that she had issues with how she looked, and it was definitely at an age where there would be some serious cause for concern:
“When I started to having body image issues I remember being three years old in a diaper and rubbing my hand over my stomach…and I remember thinking in my head “I wonder if one day this will ever be flat?”
As for the straw that broke the camel’s back and forced her to enter rehab, Lovato (whose favorites on this season include the band Emblem3) admitted that it was just a situation that got completely out of hand with someone who was actually one of her friends at the time:
“What happened was I made a huge mistake and I ended up hitting one of my friends who was a back up dancer. I felt horrible, I wasn’t really in control of my emotions at the time and I was just out of control and there’s no excuse for it but it definitely showed everyone I needed to get help and I think two days later I was checking into rehab.”
Since that time, there is really no question at all that Lovato has seriously found a way to turn her life around; her album “Unbroken” from last year has produced an inspirational ballad in “Skyscraper” as well as a #1 hit in “Give Your Heart a Break.” Meanwhile, she has actually been received even more positively for her role on “The X Factor” than the other high-profile judge in Britney Spears.
