Last year on “America’s Got Talent,” the YouTube live audition rounds were one of the most excruciating to watch of the entire season. The show contained eleven acts that were so forgettable it’s hard to remember any of them now (outside of a guy who came on and literally threw around pizzas) — but then there was on in Jackie Evancho that completely changed the course of the competition.
From the moment she auditioned as the YouTube contest champ, Evancho became an instant favorite — although she ended up placing in second in the competition, she is now a platinum-selling recording artist and one of the most-successful talents to ever come off the show.
So who is this season’s version of the pint-sized opera singer? Prepare to be slightly underwhelmed. A BMX rider by the name of Matt Wilhelm ended up winning the contest online, but from the video below he just seems to be a breed of some of the season’s other bike talent along with Fighting Gravity from last year (who everyone seems desperate to emulate now). He’s quite talented, but he’s not exactly exciting — and unless he pulls some amazing trick, will not have a Jackie Evancho-sized impact on the show.
Also on the show Tuesday night will be a singer, a magician, a dog act, and plenty of dance crews. Let’s just hope some of these acts don’t let the nerves of live TV (or being in front of the judges for the first time ever) get to them.
