‘Saturday Night Live’: Seth Meyers talks ‘Weekend Update’ special

On Thursday night, NBC is giving us a special dose of “Saturday Night Live” courtesy of a brand-new “Weekend Update” special, and prior to the show airing we did get a chance to hear from one of the show’s head writers just what it is that we should expect.

In an interview with NBCUniversal Direct, Seth Meyers proclaimed that we should probably expect to see characters during this special portrayed by the likes of Bill Hader and Bobby Moynihan. Our guess? Since we are in the thick of politics, we will probably see Hader’s uproarious James Carville and maybe even Moynihan’s take on Newt Gingrich for good measure. (Then again, we would also be more than happy to see Stefon make an appearance at some point.)

This special is really designed to get more attention for the show during the political season, especially since so many classic “SNL” sketches over the course of the past few years have revolved around politics. It has been four years since the show has aired some sort of special of this variety, and they did so both before and after the election to feature some of their most-popular actors and characters. This could be the second time that Jay Pharoah’s President Obama is going to potentially be seen, and we are sure that Mitt Romney’s 47% comment is probably going to be thrown in here for good measure at some point.

Are you planning to watch this “Weekend Update,” or do you much prefer when the show chooses to just run on the weekends? We want to hear some more of your thoughts with a comment below! If you want to catch a brand-new preview for the show Joseph Gordon-Levitt, be sure to head on over to the link here.
