The CW is clearly showing with “Beauty and the Beast” this fall that they clearly have no problem at all dipping into the world of fairy tale adaptations; so with that in mind, what’s a twist on a Lewis Carroll classic going to hurt?
Multiple sources have confirmed that the network is developing a sort of modern-day take on the classic “Alice in Wonderland” story, with the twist here being that the show centers around a young woman living in Los Angeles who discovers a secret world hidden underneath the city. (Doesn’t anyone else think that this sounds suspiciously like the Neil Gaiman book “Neverwhere”?)
This show already has a great deal of promise just based on some of its producing pedigree alone, including McG (“Chuck,” “Gossip Girl“) along with Chad Hodge and Peter Johnson. Will this show have a good shot at actually succeeding at the moment? It’s to be seen if it will even be picked up. The first challenge that the show has to overcome is the schedule for the fall, as it is largely going to be based on whether or not the shows debuting have some strong ratings. We do think that there is going to be a smash hit “Arrow,” but there are also some shows in “Beauty and the Beast” and “Emily Owens, M.D.” that are a little bit more ambivalent.
