This weekend’s new episode of Saturday Night Live is being hosted by Seth Meyers, and as the new promo indicates, this is a super-long journey — or, that’s at least what the host wants you to believe.
In the new promo below, Meyers makes his return trip back to Studio 8H, though along the way it’s also fairly clear that this is not all that difficult a road for him. Seth takes Late Night just right down the hallway from where Saturday Night Live is, so it’s really just navigating from one studio to the next. That’s the funny thing about this preview — it’s really like Seth never left, even if he hasn’t hosted the show at all since he departed as head writer / Weekend Update host. He’s made some cameos here and there but that’s about it.

So what do we expect from him as a host? The easy response to that, first and foremost, is him back at the Weekend Update desk. While also bringing back Bill Hader as Stefon is high up on the wishlist, we don’t want to also forget about some of the other great correspondents who interacted with him over time — think in terms of Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle, Jason Sudeikis’ Devil, or the first version of Cecily Strong’s Girl You Wish You Didn’t Start a Conversation With at a Party.
Beyond all of this, it will actually be rather fun to see Seth doing some live sketches, mostly because this is not something that he really did all that much of during his original tenure at the show. He mostly spent his time working on the Weekend Update desk — there are some exceptions, but typically when he did turn up in live sketches it was for a very specific reason, such as they just needed a ton of white, male cast members.
