It’s been a long summer for “So You Think You Can Dance” (and one intermittently interrupted by holidays and the Olympics), but Tuesday night was finally the opportunity that we had to see who was crowned the winner.
Before we got to the actual results, however, Nigel Lythgoe and company basically put us through what was a recap of sorts for the entire summer, complete with some replays of memorable auditions (the exorcism that still makes us cry for some reason), the top 4 performing some of their favorite routines of the season again, and some of Cyrus Spencer’s Dragon House pals coming on to the show to do a routine of their own. We personally wonder now whether or not these guys regret in some way their choice to walk away from the competition over tough choreography, especially since Cyrus has developed such an enormous fanbase.
So was this support enough to carry him to a win over Chehon Wespi-Tschopp? Based on the votes from last week, Cat Deeley proclaimed that the winner here was actually Chehon. Technically, he was probably the better dancer; but with that, we have to admit that we were still a little stunned.
As for the female winner of the season, it was a close battle between Tiffany Maher and Eliana Girard, who have both shined at various points in the season. However, the victory went to someone who we had pegged as the favorite almost the entire year (save for ironically this week): Eliana. It was an all-ballet finish for the show, and Nigel seemed to be rather pleased about it.
