When “The Voice” airs in the spring, they are going to be using a number of new coaches in an effort to ensure that their original lineup of Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton all have an opportunity to still do some of what they love to do best: make music and tour. What may be a bit more of a surprise, however, is the sort of talent they have already been able to secure … and that some of the original coaches are still staying put.
According to a new report from Deadline, a Latin music legend in Shakira is being brought in as a replacement for Christina so that she can embark on some sort of extensive tour to promote her upcoming album “Lotus.” This is ot a permanent change, though, and Aguilera will likely return for a fifth season if the show makes it this far. Meanwhile, Cee Lo (who will be working on a pair of albums at the time) is going to be replaced by Usher, who is arguably a bigger star than anyone the show has brought in period other than Christina.
For the time being, both Blake and Adam are expected to be back again for another season, with the earlier decision coming as a bit of a surprise considering that Shelton is unhappy about the idea of doing two editions of the show a year.
In a statement, here is what executive producer Mark Burnett had to say about the move:
“Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour … Whether in the red chair or on tour, our coaches have their chairs for life. This is exactly why, after three seasons, we needed to allow them to rotate out so they can get on the road amongst their fans. Meanwhile, we’re incredibly excited to have singular artists like Usher and Shakira joining the fold.”
Do you think that Usher and Shakira really are impressive gets for the show as replacements, and does this make you any more interested in watching? We want to hear from you below! To check out more about Blake’s feelings on the spring season, be sure to read the story here.
