The Bachelor filming begins for Colton Underwood’s season

The Bachelor filming is currently underway, and there is reason to celebrate that if you love the ABC show. There are many traditions that come with filming this show, from the long driveway on the first night to the silly introductions to of course the people who show up in costume.

Tonight, many of them are happening with Colton Underwood as the lead — a controversial one, at that. It feels clear from his casting alone that this was a move done mostly so that the producers of the series could figure out a way in which to get someone on board the show who would bring a lot of drama with them … and we absolutely do think that Colton is going to do that. This is a guy who has a real ability to start conversations for the show and clearly, they want that. Is it the right move? We’re not sure, since we think that eventually the producers do have to appease their fans — also, we don’t really think it matters if the leading man isn’t altogether exciting so long as they are bringing some drama to the table.

The first night of The Bachelor, for those unaware, is a very long night. It tends to not end until the next morning and many of the contestants are often either drunk, exhausted, or both by the end of the night. All of this plus nerves are often the reason for some of the extreme behavior you have a tendency to see on the show over the years.

New episodes of The Bachelor will begin to air on ABC in January, but you don’t have to wait to see Colton meet some of his first Bachelorettes on Ellen. You can see that in the video below.
