On the season 4 premiere of “Glee” late last week, we saw Darren Criss’ character of Blaine make a more-than-aggressive push to try and become the new leader of New Directions with Rachel Berry, Finn Hudson, and Mercedes Jones all now out of the picture.
So does the actor behind the role actually as interested in seeing Blaine take the reigns? Not exactly. In a new interview with TV Guide, Criss explained that personally, he would rather see one of the show’s original cast members have an opportunity to take over the club that is looking to repeat a victory at Nationals:
“I would like to see Jenna or Kevin [McHale] become that because they’re the original members from all the way back to the pilot.”
Meanwhile, Darren also said that one of the things that he is the most excited about when it comes to this new season is the opportunity to work with so many actors that he does not frequently spend a great deal of time with:
“I am a huge Tina Cohen-Chang fan, so any time I get to spend with Jenna Ushkowitz is great. Blaine hasn’t had a whole lot of interaction with Tina or Brittany, and very little with Artie. So yeah, to hang with all the kids he’s a senior with now… I am really excited about that.”
So what specifically is going to be coming up when it comes to Blaine? We know first and foremost that his relationship with Kurt is going to be tested, and it may not even survive the first handful of episodes; regardless, we know that he is going to try and fill up his time by joining a number of McKinley High’s clubs and distracting himself.
