Nigel Lythgoe had posted earlier this weekend that a full announcement on the “American Idol” judging panel would be coming up this weekend, and now we have it: Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Keith Urban are now officially going to be the crew responsible for helping to secure the right talent for the upcoming season of the hit Fox show.
In a new post on Twitter, the executive producer (and master of Caps Lock) confirmed the news:
“RANDY JACKSON WELCOMES GLOBAL ICON MARIAH CAREY RAPPER NICKI MINAJ AND COUNTRY MUSIC SUPERSTAR KEITH URBAN TO THE JUDGES’ TABLE.
Ryan Seacrest posted the photo of the crew (along with some other producers) in the photo to the left, while Randy has addressed the new panel online by saying “it’s on.” The crew is set to begin their first round of auditions Sunday and Monday in New York City, and will begin traveling elsewhere in the coming months to see some other talent that has been found whether it be online, via cattle calls, or via the show’s small-town bus tour that attracted thousands of people in more remote areas of the country.
The new season of “American Idol” will kick off this January, and we’re at least reasonably excited about the panel. The presence of the smart and opinionated Minaj should especially keep everyone from turning into Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, and Urban already has some experience at this on “The Voice” Australia. Yes, Mariah is a wild card, but she has her manager on the panel in Randy so there is at least one person she has instant chemistry with.
