Who would have thought that the decision to air “America’s Next Top Model” on Friday nights, and to premiere it so many months early, would actually be paying off on The CW? However, that seems to be happening, and the show is pulling in some of its best numbers since this time one year ago after the dreadfully-rated “British Invasion” that came on this past spring.
Basically, the new episode of the show’s “College Edition” ended up drawing a season-high 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic on Friday night, which actually put it on part with a “bonus episode” of “Touch” that aired at the same time. (This was a episode of the Fox series that did not make it to air in the spring, and while it was new, it was barely promoted.) We’re not sure if this will be enough to get Tyra Banks and company a spring cycle this year, but it is definitely a step in the right direction after it looked like this season would be dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, another show over on ABC scored a major victory as “Shark Tank” returning to a 1.7 rating that puts it even with the show’s performance last year. We’re not sure if everyone even knew the show was premiering on not last night, but this has turned into a pretty consistent warrior for the network on what has become a pretty low-rated night of original programming. With both of these shows, the real question is just if they will keep these numbers up once the full Friday lineup, which also includes “Nikita,” “Grimm,” “Fringe,” and CBS’ cop dramas, launches in just under two weeks.
