‘The X Factor’ review: Carly Rose Sonenclar rocks Providence auditions

The second episode of “The X Factor” arrived with a little bit of a sense or urgency. The first episode was a ratings letdown, and the show needed to prove this time that they legitimately had some talent here rather than just some “okay” performers mixed in with a ton of gloss and loud noise.

Thankfully, there were some surprises in this episode … and also the creepiest person that we have ever seen on one of these shows. The first half of this episode was still in San Francisco, but then, the show took off to Providence.

Johnny Maxwell – He’s almost like the baby of Astro and Chris Rene from last season! While we wish that Johnny’s vocals were a little bit stronger, there’s no doubting that for a 16-year old, this guy is extreme polished and a fantastic singer.

Lexa Berman – Just once, we wanted to see one of these crazy and obnoxious contestants be really good. The moment that Lexa came out, we were hoping that she would actually back up her mountain-sized ego. Instead, she was really just a gigantic waste of time.

Jason Brock – Finally! We have a “bad contestant” turn out to be actually good. You have to give serious credit to the editors here for making this guy really look like someone who was just delusional and not particularly good, but then he started really getting into his “New York State of Mind,” and he was a seriously good performer.

Patrick Ford – Britney Spears is not impressed, Patrick! We have never seen someone so unimpressed than a guy with flowers than Britney was during this performance. As a matter of fact, now we know why she walked off the set at one point. This was terrible … like, as in unbearably terrible. We’re surprised Britney even said “no” before running for the hills.

Carly Rose Sonenclar – This girl may only be 13 years old, but she’s got some serious star power. She doesn’t have the sense of humor or the backstory of Rachel Crow from last season, but she has a great deal of the talent. She does need to work on her upper register quite a bit, but with the right lessons here she could get a record deal from Simon Cowell by the end of the year.car
