‘Dexter’: Season 7 references run rampant in new ‘Early Cuts’

After the last episode of the “Dexter” webseries “Early Cuts” did not really give us too much when it came to references about the upcoming seventh season, the newest video seems to rectify that in a pretty big way. Why? Not only do we have a story related to the deaths of several prostitutes that could have some connection to the upcoming handful of episodes, but on this occasion the relationship between Dexter and Deb is really thrown straight into our face.

This new episode begins with a flashback to some of Dexter’s early days with his sister, and how she at one point caught him ripping apart all of her dolls into little pieces. (Yes, it’s a little surprising that Deb even had dolls based on her personality.) As a result of this happening, she struck a deal with him to not tell Harry and Doris, and in return she had to spend some more time playing with her. Dexter claims that this incident has caused him to be consistently wary of his sister over the years; he wants to protect her, and he feels that the best way that he can really do that is by giving her a series of half-truths so that she never ends up getting herself too emotionally damaged in the process.

Now that Deb actually knows at least some of what Dexter is capable of in the present, there is one question that begs to be asked: why was the history between these two with the dolls not addressed more on the show? This little piece of insight gives us a much better idea that Deb had to at least know that something was off with her brother, even if that did not necessarily compute with him going out and killing people.
