A week after a report first surfaced claiming that the NFL star was not interested in filing for divorce from “Basketball Wives” star Evelyn Lozada, he has decided to pull the plug on the couple’s marriage, which really only lasted about a month and a half.
So what is the reason for this filing? It’s ultimately simple: ever since Johnson was arrested for domestic violence last month (he has since been charged with misdemeanor battery), Lozada has made it clear that while she will always have a place for Johnson in her heart, their marriage is broken beyond repair. According to TMZ, Johnson is citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split, and he is looking for Lozada to pay her own attorneys’ fees after she asked for this aforementioned money when filing for divorce last month.
At the end of the day here, Johnson likely saw what was the writing on the wall. Even if he had never agreed to any of the terms of this divorce, Lozada could have still had their marriage terminated by a Florida judge; therefore, all he was doing in holding out from filing documents of his own and refusing to sign was hold out hope for something that was never actually going to happen.
So where do these two go from here? Lozada will probably continue to lay low for a few months before starting to film “Basketball Wives” season 5; meanwhile, Johnson will likely try to work out for a number of NFL teams in order to land a new job. The wide receiver was at one point one of the most dominant in the game, but this arrest was the final straw for a team in the Miami Dolphins who may have cut him regardless.
