Just in case you for some reason needed even further evidence that Keith Urban is going to become the newest member of the “American Idol” judging panel, here you go: the country superstar has just resigned from his position at “The Voice” over in Australia.
In a new statement (per Herald Sun), Urban had the following to say about why he is leaving the singing competition in his native country, even though he did not mention “American Idol” by name at any point in it:
“I’ve been so fortunate to have been a part of The Voice … And as much as I’d love to do it again, it’s clear that the recording and promoting of a new album, a tour and other commitments, will keep me from being a part of the second season.”
The simple truth of the matter here is that Urban would love to be situated in America once again, and he will also receive a larger salary for his work on “American Idol” than he would on the show down under. Plus, you have to think that both he and his wife Nicole Kidman would love the extra exposure that the show would give them. He has had some vocal problems that have limited his touring ability as of late, but just look at how being a judge managed to single-handedly revive the career of Jennifer Lopez both as a singer as well as an actress.
Now, we just hope that Urban ends up being a good judge; at least he already has experience in it, and he does a pretty admirable job mentoring contestants and getting the most out of them.
