On Wednesday, the cable network announced that the Florida-set detective series, which has slowly and surely built up an audience over the past few years, has been officially been renewed for a season 4. As for why this is not a surprise, the answer is simple: the ratings were up in Live+7 viewing in just about every demographic from the year before, and that sort of growth is incredible for a cable show that is more than just a season or two in.
Of course, we would be remiss not to mention that this series had some tremendous help this season courtesy of a new arrival on the scene: the Western “Longmire,” which was a ratings monster from pretty much the get-go. This show, which features “Battlestar Galactica” alum Katee Sackhoff in a lead role, was renewed for a second season before the first one even came to a close. Ultimately, the most impressive thing about both shows is that they managed to do all this on an insanely busy night during the summer. Sunday nights feature such other popular shows as “True Blood,” “Falling Skies,” “Drop Dead Diva,” some comedies on Showtime, many “Real Housewives” series, and of course a number of special awards shows and events. The fact that “The Glades” continues to rise above all of this is really an achievement in itself.
