After it appeared as though “Cougar Town” was going to be taking off to the great cul-de-sac in the sky following its third season on ABC, TBS came in at the last minute with a welcome reprieve. Now, this means that we are looking at some rather great news: the show now has an official return date.
On Wednesday, TBS announced that the further adventures of Courteney Cox would start to air beginning on Thursday, January 8 at a time to be formally announced later. The show also unveiled a pretty quirky trailer that revolved all around some of the stars proclaiming that they are back and ready for more in song. It’s pretty funny, and it also gives us a little bit more evidence that unlike ABC, this network is actually going to put some genuine effort into promoting a show with a diehard fan following.
After all, it is really this following that is the reason why Cox and company are still on the air. Despite moving around timeslots and not even airing its 15-episode season 3 until this past spring, the “Cougar Town” fans persevered despite the limited promotion given to them by the network. The cast at times believed that the show really was going to end, and many of them booked pilot projects elsewhere before TBS (which has had some success pairing original series with “The Big Bang Theory”) came in at the last minute and picked the show up. Here, it will have a new identity and a new chance to succeed.
