‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’: Jacqueline Laurita on reunion, son’s autism

With us nearing the end of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” this season, this has led us to the point where just about everyone is excited to see what happens at an event that has been described over the years as beyond emotional: the reunion special. Things were so bad at this time last year that Jacqueline Laurita didn’t even go, and while she went this time around, it was still not easy for her to handle.

In a post on Twitter (which she later said was a joke), here is what Laurita said about the sort of mindset that she was in at the time the reunion was taped:

Let’s just say that my emotions got so high that staff on set gave me a Xanax toward the end and it didn’t even work for me.”

Days after making that comment (and two days after a new episode of the Bravo series) aired, Laurita appeared on a different show in “Anderson Live” to talk for the first time on TV about her son’s autism diagnosis. It is clearly a difficult thing for any mother to deal with, and she explained to Anderson Cooper and guest host Niecy Nash why it was important to her to try and keep that part of her life a secret while the show was in production last summer:

“We didn’t have a diagnosis, things were happening … I didn’t want to bring it out on the show without a diagnosis and a treatment plan in place.”
