For many years now, British audiences have often had to wait for American shows to make the leap across the pond for new seasons; and now, we’re doing the same exact thing stateside for the launch of “Downton Abbey.” The Emmy-nominated drama series is going to be returning to ITV across the pond with new episodes in a matter of weeks, while we are stuck here waiting until 2013, when the show turns up on PBS.
Luckily, we at least have a much greater idea now as to what to expect courtesy of series star Elizabeth McGovern. Speaking in a new interview with E! News, the actress had the following to say about the new season:
“There is starting to be a lot more movement between classes and that is funny, heartbreaking, disturbing, and wonderful. You find out a lot more about the characters because you see how they react to a changing world … The kids who are growing up of course in the ’20s, [when] everything started to be much more liberated. There were a lot more possibilities for those girls than had been at the start of the series. They’re now looking to maybe have careers. So, that is the sort of dramatic thrust of a lot of the stories in Season three.”
In addition to all of this, we also have the arrival of Shirley MacLaine as someone sure to give the Dorager Countess fits … and also bring in some massive ratings. “Downton Abbey” has become one of the most successful imports to America in recent memory, and it would be a stunner to see that somehow change in the blink of an eye before next season.
