Just a matter of hours after Randy Jackson played incredibly coy on his “American Idol” future during an interview on “The View” Monday, it is now starting to look like the Dawg is going to be back on the panel, after all, for a landmark twelfth season of the show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, talks with Enrique Iglesias, who was long believed to be the fourth and final judge on the panel that is going to include the likes of Mariah Carey and most likely Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, have died off. It’s hard to say what happened here, but the “I Like It” singer has long been iffy about whether or not he wanted to do a singing show. If the drive just wasn’t there, we have to say that this really is for the best; why would we want to watch someone who is 100% a hired gun and doesn’t really want to be there?
With this being said, is Randy really the best choice? What we do like about him staying is that it does give the show another personality who viewers have long associated with the show; however, there were other options out there that producers could have picked including Adam Lambert, who is interested in this position, and Kelly Clarkson, who did a really good job on what was an otherwise terrible show in “Duets.” Hopefully, the new blood will cause Randy to raise his game; he was a decent judge during the Simon Cowell days, but over the past two seasons it almost felt as though he has grown apathetic while surrounded by judges incapable of giving actual feedback.
