With the exits of such brilliant people as Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Abby Elliot, and with Jason Sudeikis possibly joining them at some point in the months ahead after the show begs him to play Mitt Romney a while longer, “Saturday Night Live” is bringing in some fresh blood just one week before their show hosted by Seth MacFarlane with musical guest Frank Ocean airs on September 15.
As per usual with this show, Lorne Michaels is not recruiting big names here; instead, he’s tapping some of the best talent from some improv groups around the country (and, to be specific in this case, Chicago).
Aidy Bryant – Originally from Arizona, Bryant is a former member of Second City, and her sketch comedy group has performance at the famed Annoyance Theater comedy club in the Windy City. Bryant has ties to current “SNL” star Vanessa Bayer, best known for her impersonations of Miley Cyrus and other celebrities.
Tim Robinson – Like Bryant, Robinson is a Second City alum who has performed with a comedy troupe in Chicago. He also has a role coming up on “Friend Me,” the new CBS comedy starring Christopher Mintz-Plasse (“Superbad’s” McLovin) coming up in midseason. You can actually see some of Robinson’s work in the video clip below.
The Comic’s Comic blog first reported the news on these new additions. Do you like these two cast members on paper, and are you willing to give them a chance despite how much you may have loved Wiig and company? Be sure to share your thoughts below, and head over to this link if you want to find out some more news about some hosts who are hitting up the “SNL” stage later this season.
