As a part of TV Guide’s new issue featuring Jimmy Kimmel talking about the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards airing on Sunday, September 23 (literally one day before the official start to the fall TV season), the ABC late-night hosted decided to honor some of the Outstanding Drama Series nominees by dressing up as his favorite characters. One cover features him doing his impression of Jon Hamm’s “Mad Men” character of Don Draper, while another shows off his take on “Breaking Bad” villain Walter White. We’re still trying to figure out what is more disturbing: Kimmel’s take on Emilia Clarke’s “Game of Thrones” character, or what he tries to do with Maggie Smith’s Dorager Countess from British sensation “Downton Abbey.” Jimmy Kimmel advertises on the front of the magazine that he is the “winner,” and that makes us wonder: are we all the losers?
When it comes to its actual Emmy chances, Clarke’s show is probably one of the underdogs given that “Mad Men” has won this award annually for four seasons running now. “Breaking Bad” and “Homeland” are likely tied in second position, while “Game of Thrones” remains squarely as a darkhorse. While it is rare for the Emmys to recognize something like fantasy or science fiction in the Drama Series category, it is even more rare to see something from within the genre actually win. (Be sure to check out our Emmy rankings article for more on this.)
What do you think about this cover, and do you think that this is a pretty good way to try and promote the upcoming awards show airing on ABC? We want to hear some of your thoughts with a comment below! If you want to see what A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has to say about Mance Rayder’s representation on the show for season 3, you can do so by visiting the story over here. We promise, there will be no shots of Kimmel at this link at all.
