So much for the talk that Khloe Kardashian’s fellow E! star in Kelly Osbourne was the projected favorite to land the new “X Factor” hosting gig; according to a new report from TMZ, it is Khloe herself now who is the front-runner in what has been a pretty tense race over one of two open positions that need to be filled before the start of the live shows later this fall.
As we have said all along, the selection of Khloe really does make great sense. First and foremost, we already know that she would love the job in that it would give her a venue to show off something that she has worked on for years now. Khloe has been a radio host in the past, so it is not like she would be going into this experience blindly and without any knowledge of all about how a show is supposed to work in a given period of time. Remember another host that came to TV from radio? Ryan Seacrest. Khloe also may be somewhat polarizing, but for those people objecting that the Kardashians are all “no-talent people with no jobs,” Khloe would have a job … and it is one that takes a lot of talent in order to pull off. (Ask Steve Jones, who was fired last year after failing to impress anyone.)
As for why Simon Cowell would want her, the answer is simple: he wants those young viewers. In spending over $16 million on Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, the show is clearly going for women 18-49, which is a demographic that Khloe fits into very well. This announcement may not play as well to men, but it is possible that Simon still has an ace up his sleeve there courtesy of the male co-host that is to be announced soon.
What is going to be interesting is seeing how the show works for the first few weeks without a host providing the necessary narration of anything during the audition rounds. Will it be better? Worse? We’re going to be finding out in a matter of days.
